Yes, it shows the difference based on the original level.
Both.
Not vs. original, but vs. current, e.g. gf you do -3dB first, let it go, then -3dB it won’t show -6dB the second time, but -3dB.
It does? Are you referring to the range tool workaround or the lower left corner fader?
You are right when it comes to changes within the clip. But the question was related to the volume fader, here you are wrong…
Damn my clumsy potatoe fingers - you are faster…
I’m pretty sure I’m not wrong. It would be misleading if it always showed the difference vs. the original.
Lower corner fader
Sorry, no offense intended. Here on C14 Win 10 the volume fader in the left lower corner always indicates level changes in relation to the original clip and not in relation to the last change. Which system are you on, please?
@Reco29 @Johnny_Moneto - Ok, I’m probably wrong if both of you are saying otherwise. From memory - I’m at work now, so can’t double-check - I’m pretty sure I was annoyed that it worked in steps (not cumulatively), but I might’ve been mistaken. Sorry!
I’m on macOS.
EDIT: help isn’t clear about it but since it’s referring to it as “offset” then you’re 99.99% right
All good, no worries!
And who knows, perhaps it IS a bug related to the OS.
If you use the fader then the dB will be display in the event next to the fader icon (volume symbol). But it will be the same value that is also displayed in the Info Line - the event gain value. Event gain itself is an offeset, this is what the manual refers to. There is no delta display in cubase at the moment in this area.
BUT - if you use the range tool, you will actually see the delta value only, ie. the difference to the previous setting.
its all gotten to fiddly, and ref numbers to small but hey we got a huge redundant picture of a fader , !! just like what the pros have got in Pro tools
I tested out this method unfortunately it has a limitation on gain increment. It is limited by the volume curve. It is not actually a replacement for the event based volume gain.
Range selection tools max gain level: ~6.02 DB
Event based volume gain control: 24DB
What I prefer is to have options to let people choose which event volume control type they want: New volume control on the left (pro-tool style) / Traditional cubase volume control in the middle (cubase style)
Users need customization. Steinberg should have implemented audio event gain settings in the preferences to allow users to choose which option best suits them and their workflow. Allow one or the other or even both at the same time ! Steinberg is constantly failing with customization in their software design philosophy. There’s many reasons why a user might prefer one way or another or both at the same time.
Hi,
There are other voices, which say, there are too many preferences in Cubase already.
At the very least they could have made the range tool be able to grab the audio event gain node in the middle at the top without requiring a double click…
I see, noted. don’t mind it though
loose the cumbersome fader and go back to how it was with tab in middle, much faster !!!
so why is got to side faders now !!!
