Now it’s even better since you can change volume anywhere on the waveform. Fantastic, Steinberg! Thank you for listening.
It would be great to be able to hide the volume node in the lower left corners completely, as well as going completely to zero volume level–hopefully those will be available soon, too.
Am I missing something ? Because from the Cubase v14.0.20 maintenance update video demonstration it seems that Ctrl+Shift only activates this new “Segment Detection” feature which is not a solution to this issue.
Yep i’ve mentioned multiple times in this thread that the permanent audio event gain icons in the bottom left are a eye sore and un-necessary. It needs a new Cubase preference setting:
Audio Event Gain Icon Visibility:
Always
Selected Events
Mouse Hover Only
Just another update of Steinberg not fixing the actual issues…
So i’m a little bit confused. What’s the different conditions to activate the Segment Detection feature or to simply just adjust the whole audio events gain ?
Can you clarify what the different shortcuts / conditions are ?
Hold Ctrl + Shift and the auto detection function shows segments while hovering over the event
Adjust with the level symbol above the selected segment
I guess you will be asking this: No, you cannot adjust the sensitivity level of the auto detection. But you can pick other modifiers to activate this function if you want to.
Not really true. Might be best to check before posting. Preferences>Event Display>Audio>Show Event Volume Control
To simply adjust the whole audio event’s gain you can also use a tool modifier set in Preferences>Tool Modifiers>Select Tool>Edit Velocity (set to Ctrl, for example). This works on audio events. Or simply use the Volume parameter on the infoline… or use a keyboard shortcut.
I haven’t upgraded to v14. When was that implemented ? I don’t see that mentioned in the v14.0.20 release notes and no one has previously clarified whether or not if that preference has existed since the release of v14.
It is true that the Edit Volume function for Audio Events (Ctrl + Object Selection tool) is not yet properly documented in the manual. I suppose it should be mentioned here but it is not:
The issues has been fixed by a really flexible and creative solution. Now there’s two mode:
While using selection tool: Cmd + Shift will become clip based gain control. It works anywhere on the event (not just the top node / left bottom corner control)
While using range tool: Cmd + Shift will become new automatically segment detection control.
The keystroke can also be modified inside preference too!
It looks like this issue now has a solution. I can now seriously consider upgrading to v14.
I wonder why they set the default tool modifier key command to Ctrl + Shift instead of something simple like Ctrl. I would personally change it to a single key.
Look into your current version of Cubase. Select → Edit Velocity is already there for a long time. It used to be MIDI only, so some people never noticed it.
I just noticed this in the Nuendo 14 release youtube video.
Preferences for the Event Volume Control like I have been asking for. I’m not sure whether or not if these preferences have been implemented ever since the first version of Cubase 14 or not as no one previously clarified until stingray provided the info. But I am glad to see it.
