Please give us back the eventgain node in the middle of the event

Not sure there is any need for the dot to be back given the new method in last release (arguably an improvement as works anywhere in the event)
But would be nice now we have that if we could completely disable the fader if we want to.

Just in case you missed that

EDIT: And apparently they also gave us that option already

holy molie! thanks!

i didnt know about CMD/cntrl shift, i thought there was only the thing with the pencil which is too complicated when using selection tool

i turned the fader of and use the CMD-SHIFT only!!

thanks man it was driving me CRAZY

PS Tiny request: maaaaybe the curve could be a bit slower? Small movements adjust a lot with this trick, it could be 30% less fast for more control

CUBASE ROCKS!!!

Actually, you can:

EDIT: @Grim I just saw your edit… you already found out, sorry for double posting!

In fact, I think the fader still has it’s place. First, some people said it is more “protools user friendly”. Also, it allows you to enter exact value for clip gain over there, so you don’t need to move your mouse all the way to the info line to enter exact value. Moreover, if you use the slider and hold SHIFT, it allows you to do super precise clip gain. And when you hold Command and click on it. It would return to its original gain level (0 db)!

yes, but i was talking about the modifier key for the same volume, this has a very fast curve and hard to adjust to lets say 0.2-0.5 dB

but im happy i lost the fader and for the new modfier key to adjust volume per event

i had to turn off the event volume fader icon, because its in the way of basic editting all the time when zoomed out (instead of copying an event and dragging to new location the fader appears, its bonkers).

Hi

I’m just wondering if there is a fix for getting clip gain working in Cubase 14 yet?
I’m staying on Cubase 13 at the moment, as I record audio rather than midi, and so need to be able to see the clip gain controls. When it is in the bottom left, the control is normally missing or off screen.
Thanks

Yes, read the posts from March 13 onwards.

That doesn’t seem a solution as the volume line isn’t shown?
It was very useful to have clip gain, as you could just to click and drag and see the clip gain, and see the gain, and it didn’t require holding down more keys either. Being able to see the clip gain meant you knew which clips you had changed the gain of.

Will clip gain be enabled again in a later patch do you think?

The general consensus seems to be that this is a better (or at least acceptable)solution so no, I don’t think it will .

I think it’s seeing the gain level as a line that I would miss the most. It was really useful to be able to see the changed gain of individual clips so easily. Needing to use a keyboard modifier is actually fine, as you can click anywhere in the clip.

Or is it possible I’m not seeing the gain line because of a bug or preference? I’ve tried turning on the various ‘always visible’, but it’s still not visible.

So I’ll probably stay on 13 for the time, or look into ProTools again, which seems to support clip gain, and also has automation editing tools that allow smoother editing.

I think what is maybe happening is that Cubase is being restructured around working with electronic music, with short sections of audio and midi. So those of us who work with more traditional production styles in a more high pressure and time limited environment are finding the editing tools are becoming inflexible. They seem to be designed more about in depth editing of dense layers of clips of one shots or beats and samples with clear gaps and transients, rather than quickly editing a few performances that are more complex and where notes might slide into eachother.

I understand what you’re saying.

But I just want to clarify the changes:

(1) The “Select Tool” now has a modifier key which is “Ctrl + Shift”. This will allow you to adjust the gain of entire audio events, albeit the gain level line that you mention is now missing.

(2) The “Range Tool” now has a feature named automatic segment detection which is accessible via a new modifier key which is “Ctrl + Shift”, this does have a gain line, albeit it starts from the middle of the audio event and not the top.

Audio Event volume envelopes have a gain line albeit it starts from the middle of the audio event a nd not the top.

I understand that none of these are the same as the previously functionality, but I just wanted to clarify the changes.

Clips could have a bar on the left side that equals the old gain line

Going back to Cubase 13 Pro. The missing gain node in 14 Pro slows my editing time and I can’t bill the client for the change. Please bring it back, but keep the other as well, for those moments where the center one gets buried.

The Ctrl+Shift click / Cmd+Shift click is not ok for you because…?

Given that Steinberg has had to come up with workarounds, doesn’t it suggest that it should never have been changed in the first place? And doesn’t it also suggest that simply putting it back as it was would be a cleaner option?

I’ve given up on graphical Event volume control completely and just use the dB setting in the top info line. When your seasoned users simply avoid your new features that has to be a bad sign…

The old line was broken in that it only showed attenuation, not gain. It also forced you to precisely click on the little square whereas now I can click anywhere on the event.

I never had a problem with it as it was. If that was broken I’d like to see it re-broken.
