I’ve been working nonstop on this project for like the past 24+ hours and was just finishing up the final touches. I’ve been saving every 10–15 minutes but Cubase suddenly crashed (as usual). Now the .cpr files only show versions from a day ago, and the most recent .bak file is from around 15 ish hours ago. The version I was just working on has completely disappeared. it’s NOWHERE to be found. This has never ever happened to me and I’m panicking. I have to submit this by today and I don’t know what to do. Please help me I’m literally about to kms.
This is a nightmare, I am sorry to hear that!
Can you try to relaunch Cubase and hold Ctrl (Cmd) while starting? This should open a window with all available cprs. Maybe they were saved in a different location?
Hi and welcome to the forum,
I’m afraid that if the *.cpr file or the *.bak file doesn’t contain the last version, you won’t find it.
Hi,
This shows the Recent Projects list, the very same one, you can see in the Steinberg Hub > Recent or in the File > Recent Projects menu. There is nothing more.
I’ve been saving constantly… do you know why it didn’t save properly?
Unfortunately I don’t think it saved at all ;( I am trying to see if I could recover it using a recover tool
Hi,
I’m sorry, I don’t know. It’s hard to guess.
As far as I know (but I might be wrong), anytime Cubase is saving a project, it creates a new file. Once the file is stored and confirmed to be valid, Cubase takes this new file and uses it. This should prevent issues with saving a corrupted project and using it later. So it shouldn’t happen something like this, what you are experiencing.
I’m sorry for your bad experience.
This sounds like a total nightmare. I hope you got somewhere with this.
I now copy critical files to another drive on my computer when I know I have done something that needs backing up…I had a fair share of nightmares too, but I have never heard this happening…
