I am new to music production but have made a few MIDI tracks on Cubase before.
I have been trying to compose a song as a test the past few days and I have no idea what happened but suddenly all the notes are greyed out and the editor is completely wonky if it’s not opened in full screen.
I thought it was an issue with the specific music file so I opened a new track but the issue persisted.
I tried to Google the issue and see what has gone wrong but simply could not find an answer.
The weirdest part is that when the issue first started, there would suddenly be sections that turned red and did play on the same section. But now even that has stopped and everything is grey. What on earth happened? What did I do?? Please help!
(I’m a new user so I can only share one screenshot for now so I can’t show the key editor in full screen with the 800 notes I tried to draw in it.)
There is a menu in the Key Editor (which looks like it isn’t set to be visible in your screenshot) that lets you change how the Notes are colored. By default the color shows Velocity, but it can be set to other things like Track Color or the Chord Track. Perhaps you’ve accidentally changed this.
Based on a description of “completely wonky” it’s hard to speculate what’s happening. Can you give us a bit more detail.
It is not a colour setting because if you notice in the track view none of the notes appear in the track.
It also does not play when I try to play. There is sound from the piano roll but none from the actual notes when I hit play. Cubase is acting as if they are muted or not in an active zone (they are).
By wonky I mainly meant I am unable to scroll left and right on the editor and view the notes in the minimised/docked view. I have to open the key editor separately to actually be able to see the notes.
My best guess is that it is a big or I somehow disabled scrolling and sound from the midi track entirely. Other tracks where I add samples play sound without an issue. It is only the midi that is giving me hell.
I’m confused in your first image, looking at the lower zone it shows the playback cursor, but looking at the project window, your playback cursor isn’t there.
I think you have resized that part to be smaller than the contents/location of your notation thus the notation is excluded from the range of the part.
try resizing extending that part until the notes reappear…
yeah, it looks to me like that Part you have selected, is in the first 5 beats of the song, which is probably only 10 or 15 seconds in. Where as the notation starts at the 4:00 minute mark.
