I’m deaf in my right ear. Stereo is an active hindrance, especially if I’m working with a file that has something panned to the far right. I don’t want to tamper with the file settings for other people I might be collaborating with. This is an ADA compliance issue.
For several years I had a Mac laptop with a blown left speaker - I was able to use Dorico just fine by panning the system output hard right.
Depending on what sort of audio interface you use, there may be hardware solutions too. For example my SPL Marc One has this very useful toggle:
I don’t often use Mono mode, but inverting R and L sometimes helps when I’m transcribing something as the different presentation helps me hear a tricky passage differently.
Open the Mixer, insert a plugin on the Outbut Bus. Steinberg → Spatial → Stereo Enhancer. Click mono. Let your collaborators know they may have to bypass the plugin.
