Certainly has been discussed zillions of times over the past 6 years on many many forums.
Controller market is over-saturated as it is.
Let:s say one’s definition of “cheap” is $500…or…$2000.
Bottom line I suppose is if Yamaha has projected that they can’t sell X number of units at x dollars…they aren’t gonna do it.
And so far, Yamaha is super aware that their (relatively tiny) daw division (compared to motorcycles) and its users would like controllers other than say, a half-approach like the dm7…and Yamaha are equally super aware that…if the profit numbers aren’t there, they aren’t there.
Maybe something will come along from them in time. Until then, maybe chalk it up to “not enough profit”, not gonna happen.
At least, that’s the way I interpret things. Now watch, I’ll go to Namm next month and there’ll be a new controller
