Pool-based shared instruments

I received information from an AI regarding VST Live Pro 3 that there are now modules in which certain VST instruments can be loaded globally. Either persistently or song-based. Unfortunately, the sharing principle with reference to specific songs becomes very confusing with larger setlists, and the previous global VST instruments are not really usable either due to the always-on philosophy. Unfortunately, I have found that this feature has not yet been introduced. Am I correct? Are there any plans or concrete proposals to introduce globally shared instruments that can be addressed in layer mode and are either persistent or active per song and otherwise paused again? For me as a keyboardist, this would be a huge benefit, as I could simply create certain sounds globally and access them clearly again and again. Thank you for a brief update on this topic.

Hi @chris.rudolph,

VST Modules (new with VST Live) and VST Instruments are different types of “plugins.”

You are interested in Instruments, which are part of Layers. Instruments can be loaded locally within a song and can also be loaded as “shared” instruments across multiple songs. In addition, an Instrument can be loaded globally, meaning it is loaded once and accessible throughout the entire project.

Global Instruments are always active. There is currently no option to activate or deactivate a global layer on a per-song basis.
However, if your global Instrument supports multiple slots (like HALion), you can load different sounds into different slots and address them via MIDI channels. In that case, you can use a virtual MIDI cable to route MIDI from song layers to the global Instrument.

  1. Start VST Live and create a New Project
  2. Create a global layer : Menu → Layer → Create Global Part
  3. For MIDI Input , select a virtual MIDI cable (e.g. Virtual MIDI : VM In 1 )
  4. Load HALion Sonic into the Layer of the Global Part
  5. Load a Guitar Sound to Slot 1 and a Piano Sound to Slot 2

  1. Select the Layer of Song 1 | Part 1 and for the ”Instrument" select “Virtual MIDI Out 1” and “Channel = 1”

  1. Your MIDI device (if connected to MIDI In 1 ) will now send events to the virtual cable, and the global instance of HALion Sonic will play the Guitar

  2. Create a new Song, select the Part of that Song.

  3. Select for “Instrument” your Virtual MIDI Cable" and “Channel = 2”.

  1. Now you MIDI device will send to channel 2 and piano will be played

Does this help?
Michael.
