Picking up this software for the first time is frustrating on Mac. Apparently on Windows the below is supposed to be automatic? On Mac, it’s not set and there’s no user feedback to signal that these things need to be set for sound.
Sorry that you’re experiencing a poor introduction. This was not my experience on MAC. Go to the top Play menu (next to Library menu) and go to Playback Template and choose Auto.
If that doesn’t work, make sure all of your VSTs are properly installed by going to the Steinberg Download Assistant applicationand make sure they’re in the right location by using the Steinberg Library Manager application.
If none of this works, an expert here will be along to help you. They’ll probably ask you to upload the diagnostic report from the help menu.
I already have it working; I posted just to provide feedback. The software does not indicate to the user that VSTs are missing or that nothing is routed.
I’m glad you got it sorted; but without knowing exactly what happened, and what didn’t happen, then it’s unlikely that the developers can improve the situation. You’ve just said that it wasn’t working.
You might like to upload a Diagnostic Report from the Help menu, which will provide detailed information about the state of Dorico. The time and date when the problem occurred will also help with the logs.
If the instrument has no routing, then it will look like this:
If the VST is actually not installed on your computer, and the document expects it, then you will see something like: !!! - HALion Sonic !!! (with the exclamation marks) where the VST is normally listed, to show that it is missing.
