Pops And Clicks on Playback Using Cubase 14

Hello,

I know there have been other posts on this topic but I did not find an answer that worked or with a newer version of Cubase.

I am running Cubase 14 Pro on a 2019 iMac i9 64GB RAM. OS 14.7.1 All samples and sessions are on separate SSDs with plenty of space

I am using a 1st Gen Apollo for the interface.

I’ve just started using Cubase but I have and regularly use Pro Tools, Logic and Ableton. I can get some pretty hefty sessions tracked at 48/24 with the buffer generally set to 32 or 64 samples on those DAWs with no issues. (They have there own issues which I am sure all of you are aware of)

I’ve tried turning the wifi off, I’ve made sure the sample rate and bit depth match across the board. I’ve had the audio performance monitor up to see if I am taxing the computer to much but it only occasionally hits the 25% mark on peak. The processor indicator light turns red but I can’t find what is triggering it. I have 6 audio tracks with Pro-Q on them, Superior Drummer and 2 hardware synths hooked up. I’ve tried disabling all the plugins. changing the buffer from 32 up to 512 and still get pops.

Any ideas? I appreciate the help.

Hey

I’m having a similar issue with my copy of v14. I think this is something hardware related as the older ssds within Intel Macs don’t work well with Cubase. I’ve seen people use it seamlessly with apple silicon based machines.

Have you tried resetting all the settings? There might be something there.

These issues with audio clicking and popping are prominent when I’m using the elastique pro algorithm or when I add fades and crossfades to audio regions. I tried to use the standard algorithm but the sonics are completely different.

Interesting - I have noticed that V13 works fine with my Intel Mac but V14 not only gives pops and clicks but also only recognizes certain DACs but not others (e.g., Schiit Modius was not recognized, RME ADI-2 Pro was). I switched the same project from V14 to V13 and these issues resolved. I had not noticed V14 giving the same issues on my silicon Mac but I’ll re-check that and get back on here if I find any.

Okay - seems to be a performance issue. No issues since increasing buffer size but I’ll monitor further.

I had similar problems after upgrade from 13 to 14. I have a MOTU M4 and increased the buffer size to 256 (from 128). Problem appears to be gone.

I understood after extensive testing that the clicks and pops occured when I add auto fades to audio clips, enable and disable the loop cycle.

I’m using and older 2018 intel i9 macbook pro with 32 GB RAM and a 4 TB internal SSD. It’s a decent computer but it has slowed down over the years due to the apple software updates.

I’m assuming the native apple silicon and Rosetta versions of Cubase 12,13,14 don’t have any sort of issues.
