Hello.
It is very important for me that projects are portable and in perfect order. I was unpleasantly surprised that I cannot somehow export the drum machine presets together with the audio files. Now the audio samples of the project that the drum machine uses are not organized and scattered in different folders. In addition, I am trying to find the logic in the fact that the audio files of the sampler track can be placed in the pool, but the drum track files cannot. Why is this?.. Why can’t I put all the files belonging to the project in order?..
Isn’t the Drum Machine more like a plugin?
And plugins don’t store their samples inside the project, but in a common (to that plugin) sample folder, so they can be re-used in many projects.
It doesn’t even have the ability to do that. You can’t assemble your drum kit from different samples, for example from splice and loopcloud, and save it all in one folder.
I first collect my samples (from many different sources) into folders on one of my drives. And they always stay there, even after I use them in the new Drum Machine.
Just like the samples I’ve used in a plugin like NI Battery will stay in the folder that my Battery samples are in.
And when I truly want to make a project survive all future external changes (future instrument and/or FX plugin unavailability or incompatibility, or whatever), I have to print every track plugin to audio anyway.
Yeah I would really like to have the ability to save a kit’s samples in a central folder like Groove Agent can do, or have them pooled in a folder the way the Sample Track can do.
I have two DAW setups in different cities. Both systems have different storage layouts and file systems, so I don’t have all my samples in the same places. With Drum Machine my current workflow is: Build the kit the way I want it, then manually collect all samples I used and copy them to the project folder, and then replace all the samples with the ones I centrally located.
This is a lot of busywork which would be fixed if Steinberg added a sample export feature.
Thanks to the developers for fixing this issue in version 14.0.20! Looking at how the files are now distributed in the pool, I hope it will be the turn of GrooveAgent, Padshop, and REVerence.
