I’m working on creating some music-analysis examples in which I want to show many vertically aligned horizontal brackets. My understanding is that there is no auto-align feature for lines, and the default behavior produces this:
One thought that occurred would be to use pedal lines with just hooks at the beginning (no Ped. indication) and vertical lines for retakes. But it doesn’t seem possible to narrow the retake width in Engraving Options to get a good result. Anyone have a good technique to accomplish this? (Is it possible to change the glyph of a retake?)
Thanks, @jesele. I finally had a chance to try out your suggestion. Unless I’m missing something, I don’t think it works to get the result I want, shown here using individual hooked-end lines whose length and vertical placement have been manually edited:
I think the approached I marked as Solution is the best approach. I’m happy to let go of the idea that the ends of the brackets overlap horizontally if it means I can simply use multiple pedal lines and set them to align across systems in Engraving Options rather than futzing away with manual positioning.
Now the second step: recreating this in a new native 6.1 file. Glad I haven’t gotten too far into the project yet!
don’t give up :
Expanding the idea of @jesele of using only hooks as the Ped. line symbol, you can obtain what you show in your screenshots (no gaps between the hooks) changing these two engraving options:
