Post Cubase 15 Pro Reinstall, Halion Sonic not loading some content - SOLVED

SOLVED

Turns out that despite being discontinued and shutdown as of 10 May 2025 , you still need eLicencer Control Centre installed to get Halion to see core content as being licenced
:thinking::thinking::thinking:

Original issue

I have just carried out a clean install of 15 pro and having issues with ā€˜some’ Halion Sonic content, the wee red keys showing up next to presets.

Not sure

This is with content which is included in Halion Sonic 7, it is not additional licenced content.

All of my content is on a separate drive D: so didn’t need reinstalled.

I clicked on the .vstsound files which happily added them to library manager, which shows no issues .

If I click on the .vstsound files again library manager insists they are already registered

I even tried reinstalling the content with download assistant but issue persists.

Any gems anyone ?

some screenshots to cover the obvious

red key - not working
Anima , Auron, B-Box, HALitron, HS2 Combis, HS 3 Combis, HS Factory, Hot Brass, Model C, Raven, Skylab, Studio Strings, Voltage, World Instruments, World Percussion,

working fine
Guitar Harmonics, Flux, Iconica Sketch, Navia Harp, Sonic Selection, Writing Room Synths, Trip, X-Stream.

Got to be something daft, surely
An example

Not clear to me what you’re saying in this post really.

You didn’t mention the Activation Manager, so, did you activate the corresponding licenses?

Conversely now I;m not sure quite what you are saying

Halion sonic is activated withing the Cubase 15 Pro activation, so not point in mentioning it since if I hadn’t run activation manager I wouldn’t even be able to get into Cubase

I thought I had been pretty thorough in my description of the the issue , seems not …

I refer to the sentence after ā€˜Solved’ , the question remains, regarding eLicencer and as to why that discontinued application would have solved the issue …..

You’re saying you needed to run the elicenser to authorize products that are currently licensed via the Activation Manger.

Here you show a a list of activated products, but it would be more informative if you showed all licenses .

Please show a pic of your ELC window.

I do not have the ELC installed, all content is authorized:

That is indeed what I’m saying

This is what is in my eLicencer but none are relevant now . Well I didn;t think they were until I had this issue

I built this particular PC 5 years ago, it has has 12 pro ,13 pro, 14 pro and 15 pro , not had any issues up until now.

Was yours a first time clean install of 15 and all the associated content ?

New install or older, doesn’t matter really, the point is simply that the content is licensed via the Activation manager now, not the ELC. If you somehow have old versions I suppose that might cause problems, but that does not seem to be the case.

The machine I am using never had the ELC installed, and all new from about 8 months ago.

I think the elc thing is a red herring

I absolutely agree it shouldn’t be this way but it is what solved the issue  , which is what baffles me , but, it’s working which is all that matters …..

it’s a full minty fresh win 11 install on a new nvme drive, no older versions, unlike the previous one  , the 10→11 in the box upgrade was playing silly buggers ……

As usual all the various HALions are being conflated under the ā€œgenericā€ HALion.
There’s talk of HALion, HALion Sonic 7, and in the screenshot HALion Sonic 3.
Seems to me that the content of HALion Sonic 3 still needs the dongle. Unless you upgrade to the full $350 HALion and not the free HALion Sonic 7.

Contrary to expectation, I like to be proven wrong - it means I learned something today.

Whilst pulling what hair I have left, out, and googling ferociously the word ā€˜eLicencer’ whizzed past in a search result, I thought, surely not ? , but clutching at straws I thought ā€œI wonderā€ and installed it, and , despite all the dialogue boxes saying ā€œthis is a dead licencer, it’s not just sleepingā€ it resolved the issue …

Possibly ? , either some ā€˜stub’ in the content needed eLicencer, or, the installation of eLicencer poked the content database somewhere and told it what it wanted to hear ?

who knows ?, in today’s episode I’ll pull my dongle, ooh err missus, and see if any of the content complains …..

I know for certain I’ve never had the full blown Halion application on any build, I was under the impression, correctly or otherwise that full blown Halion has no more content that sonic ? , Halion has just more functionality ?

ā€conflatedā€ ? , I’m just ā€œconfusedā€ , ……. about many things , not just Halion

This screenshot of yours

Indicates that at some point you purchased HALion Sonic 3 - NOT the SE free version.
I bought HS 3 as well, before upgrading to the full HALion.
And yes, the libraries are much the same. And they both need licences. If you haven’t switched to the new licence system, and/or if you haven’t upgraded to the FULL HALion (NOT HS 7), then you need the dongle.
That’s how it appears to me, until new information comes to light.

I still have licence for HS 3 SE, as well as a full HALion licence, upgraded to the new system.
