Pre-Installation Preparation for Upgrade from Cubase 13 to 14?

Hi Guys,

I’m about to upgrade from 13 to the latest 14.0.20…

When you update from 13 to 14 does the install capture, maintain, or import all your preferences, custom key commands, global window arrangements, Project Templates, etc., or should I backup and import the backup of all the above after installing the upgrade?

I have a full-band session coming up, and I need to ensure I don’t gum up my templates and all my tried and true settings and work environment that speeds up my production processes.

PS
I have a feeling I’m going to have to backup all my current settings like I’ve had to do in the past. If that’s the case, after all these years, I have to wonder to myself as a former programmer, why in the HECK Steinberg has not yet implemented a step in the upgrade process that copies all of the important preferences and environmental settings and simply reapply them into the new version upgrade???

If it’s that impossible, then why doesn’t Steinberg warn everyone that their settings will be reset and direct them to an instructional page on how to backup all their templates and preferences? Just sayin’

Thanks for any advice in advance!!

Hi,

All the settings are migrated from Cubase 13 to Cubase 14 automatically. You don’t need to do any action.

Moreover, your Cubase 13 remains.

They do, as Martin pointed out. That said, backups are always your friend, and sometimes with benefits. Depending on your OS your preferences backups could be as easy as zipping up your Cubase 13 Preferences (e.g. MacOS). I actually have a wee automator app that does this every time I logon.

Not only does the C14 installation migrate all your settings, but it leaves C13 alone so that if something blows up in the middle of your band session you can just go back to familiar territory. You’re a brave soul to have your first interaction with a new version be a trial-by-fire “full-band session”
