Preference for avoiding tied note representations

My Dorico has a consistent preference for representing dotted notes as tied notes. (Unnecessary tied notes can be very ugly.)
I work hard to fix this ugliness on many occasions; mostly with success, but often with effort and frustration! But here now require a minim tied to a dotted crotchet.

When they are not tied I can force it to be right

But as as soon as I add ties it reverts to ugliness .

Can I make this work right? As far as I know I have 3/4 time defaults set to divide/beam notes in the standard way.

If you force duration on the note before also, it works.

Force duration on these:

Your example can also be automatically notated the way you prefer by setting the “Notate as single note” option for the “Notes starting on a beat followed by a rest in the middle of the beat” setting.

You find this in the Notation Options, under the Note Grouping header. If you go though those options and set your preferences as default, you’ll probably end up much happier than if you keep forcing the notes to look the way you want them one by one.

Great @Rikard. I was to lazy trying the various grouping options.

what a great option. Just what I wanted Thank you!
