I’m not sure what is the preferred way to do this. Firstly, when I simply deleted the title for subsequent pages, it was replaced with ‘Flow 1’ at the top of all later pages. However, if I typed a ‘hard space’ (on Mac option-space) to replace the title, I got what I wanted.
Is this an efficient way of going about this?
I think you’re dealing with Flow Titles.
If I’m assuming incorrect, please show at least a screenshot which Title you’re talking about.
You could hide them always (or only for the first flow) in Layout Options
A screenshot might help.
Where are you deleting the title? Project Info?
If you want a title on the first page but not the rest, maybe edit the page template in engrave mode instead.

It’s these title headings on each page (which seem to print to PDF).
Thank you, I see now how to edit them away in the page template. However, at this stage of my working with Dorico, perhaps I ought to leave the templates alone. As far as I can see, it’ll do no harm to leave them as they are until I’m printing to PDF, when I can edit them out of the current file via hard space as described.
Or have I got the whole principle of this completely wrong? (Which is certainly possible.)
You can also make a new template! I think you can make a duplicate and edit that one. If not, you can look at the properties in the bottom panel, and recreate one. At worst, it’s a great way to learn more about them without messing anything up. You can delete any “fails” when you’re done!
Make a new template is the best solution, but this will only be possible is you are using Pro, not Elements.
I’m using Dorico Pro 6, latest incarnation.
After 26 years with Finale, it’s taking me a little while to work out how to do just about anything and everything; but I’m immediately aware of things D does better than F (at least from my point of view). eg Dorico seems to add instant cautionary accidentals, and (astonishingly after Finale) these take into account both staves of a piano part; or there is D’s seemingly instant vertical spacing &c &c &c.
The only adverse thing I’ve noticed is file size. A 300 plus page, nearly 2000 bar, 90 minute Finale file for 6 singers and small orchestra is 4.6 MB. My barely started piece for 2 singers, narrator and piano in Dorico appears already to be more than 3 MB.
So, simply change your default page template to remove the project title from the header.
It’s true that Dorico files are larger – but so are hard drives these days! Drive space is so cheap that I don’t even think about it.
