Dorico has taken over pen and paper for me for now. My preferred input method is neither the fake “speedy entry”, nor a real or virtual keyboard, but simply to select a note, click R to repeat it, and then modify the length with the arrow keys. Maybe if I was engraving other people’s music and speed was of the essence, a different system would be better, but for composing, I find this works for me in the simplest way without impinging on the work at hand.
