PreSonus FaderPort 2 (2018) midi remote script

Does this mean that we should replace the .js script file
with this newer version from April 7, 2025 ?

Yes, that would be useful.

Hi folks,
I haven’t been following the thread recently, and I just upgraded the script from an older version to the most recent one (along with Nuendo 13 to 14). I’m experiencing some sort of offset with the fader, which didn’t bother me too much (although the former version worked perfectly), until I’ve realised that whenever I’m writing automation, as soon as I touch the fader, the writing jumps to a different value, not maintaining the original one.

I’m not sure if I missed out on some setting update, or it’s due to either of my upgrades. I appreciate any help in advance!

Hi @Laszlo_T,
this topic was just discussed a few posts ago.

Sorry if I’m curious.

Do you already have plans for the next update, CKB ?

Yes. The next update is in progress… :innocent:

Thanks, Christian!

I also would like to report an issue: my fader port MK2 (2018) works great for a few hours on my Mac Studio M2 ultra (sonoma) but after that it disconnects. It says it’s connected in midi remote and the lights work, just nothing I touch sends anything to Cubase. I followed your troubleshooting notes and even updated Cubase to 14.0.2 from a slightly previous version. I reinstalled the firmware for the fader port, restarting after every step. Could I have accidentally messed something up, maybe in custom mode (which I haven’t even intentionally tried to go into yet)? I also have tried disconnecting from midi remote and refreshing. Any ideas? Should I try the newest script you just sent a few posts above? Thank you so much again!

Hi bryanatkinson,

if you have really tried ALL the troubleshooting steps from the Setup PDF,
including ā€œDelete all Preferencesā€, you could try this:

Delete all files in this folder:
(Note: This will delete all your individual MIDI remote settings for Cubase.)
/ Users / <USERNAME> / Documents / Steinberg / Cubase / MIDI Remote / User Settings

Reinstall Cubase 14.0.20 with the Cubase Download Manager.

It’s better to use the fp-wizard, version 07.04.2025, but if you have not worked with Custom Mode before, this is not the solution to your issue.

If you reinstall Cubase, try (as a test) reducing all your midi equipment to the FaderPort.

Try testing with new projects that you have just created in Cubase 14.0.20 without a template.

If your problem persists after that, it could be fundamental system problems.
Then you should report to @Martin.Jirsak what exactly you have installed on your Mac.
I think he has a better overview of the cases in which these ā€œdisconnectā€ problems still exist.

Good luck
CKB

Thank you kindly for the steps! I saw a mackie fader port and blocked drivers.json files I trashed those for starters, keeping my elgato/presonus. This seemed intuitive and maybe it will work. I appreciate your attention! Cheers!

Hi friends,

I have created a document for those who joined this thread at a later date.

In order to be able to use the FaderPort with Cubase more practically,
some measures for a device tuning are listed here :

fp-wizard_device_tuning.pdf (557.1 KB)

Hello! I have WONDERFUL news in my troubleshooting efforts. I found the culprit for my FP randomly disconnecting. As it turns out, it’s not random. When I select the shortcut for ā€œmidi resetā€ in Cubase Pro 14 the FP ceases to connect and goes into a sort of ā€œidle modeā€ where the buttons are lit but nothing works. The midi reset is useful if a midi instrument/note gets ā€œstuckā€ and won’t turn off. I use it somewhat often. Has anyone else come across this? Am I missing a setting or something else? I also reset Cubase preferences (I hadn’t done that before) so I don’t think that’s it. Thanks!

Hi bryanatkinson,

thanks for your feedback.

If you perform a Midi Reset in Cubase, you have to switch off the FaderPort afterwards (with the small power switch at the back right of the FaderPort), wait two seconds and switch it on again. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to mention this in the setup pdf.

Thank you for the instruction!

Hey Christian, just opened up a basic session to confirm this. I hit midi reset, then powered off and powered on after waiting a few seconds. The FP did not automatically reconnect with the Cubase session open, so I went to midi remote manager and refreshed, it said connected then. However, the FP still doesnt’ respond, it DOES move the fader to match the volume of the selected tracks, but none of the bottons work though illuminated. Any ideas when you get a minute would be most welcome! My firmware and everything should be good. It does work if I quite cubase and reopen.

Hi @bryanatkinson,

I work with Windows.
An additional Cubase restart after a MIDI reset is only necessary for me with Cubase 12.

Maybe this is how it works for you :

Before you do a MIDI reset, you switch off the FaderPort
and after the MIDI reset you switch on the FaderPort.

If this doesn’t work for you either, it might work with the next update of Cubase (14.0.30). Steinberg is working on a similar bug.

Great idea! Tried it and still the same issue. I noticed that Cubase 14 doesn’t reinitiate the FP after powering on and off with Cubase open, even after refreshing midi remote, but when I try it on Cubase 12 as you indicated, it syncs back up just fine after a reboot (apart from the midi panic issue), so it does sound like a Cubase 14 bug! but in the meantime I can just go into the kontakt instrument and panic button that, it shouldn’t effect the FP. And I’ll look forward to the cubase update. Thank you!

*** update news ***

Dear Friends,

a new update is in the works and will be released soon. Since you had to wait so long for the last major update, I’ll be quicker this time.

There will be a new Audio Mode with which you then can edit audio material.
This is already working for me here.

There will also be other new functions that I previously had on my to-do list but didn’t know how best to implement, but now I finally have suitable ideas for an implementation.

Best regards

Hi Christian,

thanks for letting as know !
I was about to again re-assign my personal shortcuts to the custom pages - the last two updates broke them.
I’ll hold back for now until the next release.

Another topic -

With so many functions now available I feel that the fp-wizard_overview gets more and more convoluted… (so many footnotes now…)

I usually try to remember the function of each button going trough them one by one (seperate for the main page and then for the shift page).

I was thinking besides all the footnotes available it maybe would make sense to add a list (a second page) which would list all functions available for buttons, which have multiple functions (similar as you did in your latest release notes)

For example for the Shift Button (Main Page):

Shift > go to Shift Page
Shift (Doubleclick) > Quick Control Mode

Then next for the Bypass Button, the Touch Button, and so forth…

What do you think, does it make sense ?

Kind regards,
Frank
