Sometimes, the build quality outside the US is better than in the US. Same parts, lower price - better product. It highly depends on the year and, of course, on the individual guitar. I was surprised, more than once.

There seems to be quite a bit of dissatisfaction with Fender these days, especially with the new CEO coming in and immediately starting lawsuits against companies that have been making Stratocaster-style guitars basically forever.
I have a S1 V6 license, and I use that occasionally, but I am able to work faster in Cubase, so I doubt I will ever upgrade that S1 license. I’m not sure Fender will even be around in another 5 years. It is a tough business. If your priorities are to produce low (or unpredictable) quality instruments and sue everybody in sight, this is probably not going to work out great. It might be different if Fender were still making superior products and the look-alikes were cheap knock-offs. I’m not a guitar player, but if I understand Beato, the look-alikes are consistently better than what Fender is making these days.
PRS guitars do look nice though

Moreover, PRS has established an amazing quality management over the years. Fender has had issues in that department for years. As of lately, Ibanez has massive trouble with quality management, too. Something like this always backfires, not good.

The past couple of years, I have spent way too much time and money putting together my own guitars from Warmoth bodies and necks. Much more satisfying than buying off the rack. I hate the electronics part of it, but I’m getting better every time. I’ve owned a little bit of everything over the years. The only “factory built” guitars I have at this point are an ESP E-II Eclipse, a mid-range Yamaha bass, and a Mexican Taylor acoustic. All of which are fantastic. I’ve even started machining a few of my own parts. My “fat Tele” bridge is in my avatar.

Roasted swamp ash core wood with an acrylic-infused spalted maple top. It was from their first PNW limited run last year. The neck is roasted flame maple with a rosewood fingerboard.
