Prevent brackets from triggering "ghost" or "dead" percussion notes

The most common notation for a crossover on the marching tenor drum is to put parentheses around the notehead where the arms cross. But when I do this in Dorico by toggling ON the round bracket, it causes that note stop playing, presumably because this notation can sometimes indicate a ghost note on the drumset, e.g. Can I prevent this or work around this so the note still plays?

You could instead create a playing technique-specific notehead for this intended notation?

If you never want brackets on percussion notes to reduce their velocity/volume, or want to change the amount, there’s an option in Playback Options > Dynamics > Note Dynamics.

I skipped right over that playback option :frowning_with_open_mouth:

Thanks for the quick response Lillie, that works perfectly.
