Preventing automatic formatting changes: using Dorico updates on older files

I have created several scores using Dorico 5.0 versions. However, when I have re-opened these files using a Dorico 5.1 version, it seems that some layouts have changed, including for the instrument parts. (I have not further upgraded to v. 6 for this reason.)

I would like to open old files and not have careful formatting fine-tuning work being undone.

Am I missing something? How to ensure this? (Same question on when I move on to v. 6.)

Hi @smn, we would need more informations about what exactly is happening and what changes in layout are you experiencing, with at least some screenshot (before/after) or even better the Dorico files (possibly in D 5.0 format, to have the “before”).

(Normally new versions don’t influence the layout when opening older files, and if we know what changed are happening we can give advices on what settings to change, in case something acts differently between versions.)

One thing might be the new (smaller) brace design.

Manual adjustments in Dorico is set in relation to the “optimal” settings. If these change, whatever is adjusted will change. It’'s not like the absolute positions in SCORE or Amadeus, that never changed, no matter what.

You can upgrade and keep your Dorico 5 app. As long as you don’t use them simultaneously you can use them both

(Sorry, can’t help you on the problem you’re seeing)

This is useful. I am not sure I can reproduce exactly what has happened, it was a few weeks ago and I don’t have a good
before/after snapshot. Given the replies from

Does this mean that each version have their “local” fonts?

I don’t think so. But that’s just my guess.
