I want to add some vertical text here, so I took a vertical line and set the text property and attached it to the last note in the rh staff. I turned off collision avoidance, but it still pushes the fermata way up:
The avoid collisions in this case seems to move the line slightly on the X axis to prevent collision with the fermata, but in either case (with the setting on or off) it pushes everything up on the Y axis. Is there any way to avoid that?
Oops, pasted the wrong image. But as I said, it doesn’t matter if the box is checked or unchecked: it slightly adjusts the horizontal placement of the line, but not the vertical space added.
Wasn’t sure if you meant the checked box or the button turned on when you said it didn’t matter. What happens if you turn off the button (so it isn’t blue)? When I tried entering a line with text it did not push the fermata up unless I had the blue button on.
I’ve tried all combinations of attachment for the vertical line, but if the rhythms don’t line up, I end up with two separate, distinct lines (you can see the line to the left of the treble-clef A4), and then setting the text adjusts the fermata again.
I can do this with a horizontal line and then manually drag the line to vertical orientation in engrave mode. So far, the horizontal line hasn’t displaced anything in the places I’ve just tried it.
It also doesn’t matter for me if the toggle enabled or disabled. That would actually surprise me; there shouldn’t be any difference between toggle on with the checkbox in default state, and toggle off (implying default state).
Hi @Scott.O, you can correct the Top position (or Bottom position, depending on the situation), so that the line/text doesn’t influence the spacing of the fermata or of the 2 staves of the grand staff (it will still influence the system spacing in my example). After you see the desired spacing, you can then move the text to the desired position::
Here the example where the line was created selecting only the last note in the lower staff:
Ah, interesting. That’s easier to drag than rotating the horizontal line; thanks! Though if there is a pedal marking below the fermata, then it moves, and I cannot adjust both the top and bottom positions with the text length I have.
You can add a note on the upper staff in another voice on the last beat, activate its property Starts voice, and hide its stem and notehead in engrave mode. The fermata on the hidden note can be dragged off the page in engrave mode. Then you can select the notes on the last beat in both staves and create the vertical line:
