I have a score with multiple parts and would like to print two together (like voice and piano but not the other instruments). I have tried highlighting each part but only one or the other shows up. What am I missing?
Go to Setup and on the right-hand side create a new Full Score layout. Right-click on the newly created layout and select Voice and Piano players to be included in your new layout.
It does not need to be a Full Score layout. You can create a new Part layout that includes both instruments.
(Which you choose will depend on how your score layouts differ from your part layouts and what you want to achieve)
Okay, I’m probably being dense here, but I just don’t get it. I can create a new orchestra part, but it has all the same instruments. I don’t see how on the right to include just the ones I want. (Need I mention that I’m relatively new to Dorico?) Same with creating a part (reference the other reply). How do I make that part include two instruments?
I figured it out. You must RIGHT click on the new orchestra and then select players.
In Setup Mode, click the “Add Instrumental Part Layout” button.

Now you’ve got a new layout in the right-hand column called “Empty part”, and it’s bright blue. In the bottom panel, make sure all the flows you want to include have their checkbox ticked. In the left-hand panel, tick the checkboxes for the players you want to include. Here, for example, I’ve included the one flow in my piece and the flute and piano players.
Notice that the name of the layout has changed to “Flute & Piano”. That layout now includes the music for both instruments.
Thank you for your specificity!!! I understand and SO appreciate your help!
Hi and welcome!
Dorico makes things differently from other programs in some aspects. Players and parts and such is one of these aspects. Very powerful, but takes a bit to understand and use fully. And we have all been there…
Assuming you want to create a Layout with two Players: the new layout will have two players, say piano and voice.
- Select Setup mode
- In the panel to the right, press the Add Instrumental Part Layout , one of the plus signs at the bottom of the panel. (You may use add score if you like that better.
- Select (in the right panel) your newly created Layout. It might have a name such as “Empty part”.
- In the left panel, now click in the boxes to the right of the player names. You may select one or many. Note that the layout now gets a new name (this can be changed of course), say Piano and Voice.
Done. You now have a new Layout that you can print.
