I’ve recently started composing a choral piece directly in acestudio. In order to be able to print the piece, I exported the file as a standard midi file then attempted to open it in Dorico5. When I import the file, it recognizes the parts (SATBB) but gets stalled at 92% and then Dorico becomes non responsive (MAC). Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
How could we investigate the problem w/o the midi file?
Have you tried importing it into another program…Do you have Cubase or another DAW to test it?
Yes - it loaded into Logic (LPX) without issue.
Rob
Did you try exporting it from Logic as a MIDI-file and importing it into Dorico?
Jesper
I’ll try that now
Rob
that worked - but too much work to make another midi file in logic from the midi file in ACE - but at least it worked.
You could attach the original MIDI file so the team could have a look.
You need to zip it first.
Jesper
Jesper - here are the details…
Composition software is AceStudio.ai v 1.9.8
Export: midi/Utaformatix (all tracks in one file)
Dorico v 5.1.81.2225 (import midi)
Attached is a screen recording of what happens. Let me know what you determine…
Thanks
Rob

Here’s a link to the screen recording. The MIDI file is attached. Let me know

WWYJ-ACC.mid (7.71 KB)
It imports for me, but it’s 4374 pages where only the first 6 pages has any music. The rest is just rests. I guess there is something off with the MIDI export
from ACE-studio. If ACE-studio support music-xml you could try that instead of MIDI. Otherwise perhaps @Ulf or someone Steinberg could have look.
Jesper
Sorry, but MIDI import is not my area of expertise.
OK, sorry Ulf, maybe @dspreadbury or someone else could have a look.
In Logic it only imports the 6 pages with music.
Jesper
It ‘imports’ to MuseScore, probably not in the format you want. But here’s a xml that imports to Dorico…
WWYJ-ACC.mxl (10.4 KB)
Wow - 4k+ pages - didn’t expect that! It appears that ACE is designed to IMPORT musicxml but only export in the midi format. I will continue this journey - thanks for your help.
Rob
what version of Dorico are you using?
5.1.81.2225
Jesper
It seems it has something to do with time signatures. Dorico imports it as open time signature. Logic and Musescore as 4/4.
Jesper
almost perfect - but didn’t carry time signatures in the reformatting. This is very curious. I’m also reaching out to ACE support to see what they say.
thanks for staying with me on this
Rob
