Problem loading Dorico 6

My copy of Dorico 5 opens fine.

Opening Dorico 6: I get to, “Loading Stage Template Default” and then Dorico 6 closes.

Sorry, there was an error uploading Dorico6.exe.4692.dmp. Please try again.

I’m getting this message on all 6 “Crash Dump” files.

So, I’m not sure how to get the files uploaded.

Should I Compress the files to ZIP?

You can try a .zip compressed file and upload here.
Otherwise email to one of the team, send it directly to @Ulf at u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de

I’ve attached 3 of the 6 Dump Files.

Dorico6.exe.4256.zip (3.7 MB)
Dorico6.exe.4692.zip (3.7 MB)
Dorico6.exe.5016.zip (3.7 MB)

My Computer is Windows 11.

Please let me know if there is more information needed.

Ulf or someone will get back to you either here or privately message you (just right now it is currently night, their time). It’s a one-to-one service related to your specific set up and crash reports.

I too am having all sorts of problems installing the Dorico 6 upgrade. The Download Assistant keeps telling me: Steinberg Library Manager privileged helper has wrong version (-1, -1). Failed to establish privileged helper. I have the latest version, reinstalled it anyway, and continued to get the same message.

I have uninstalled all my Steinberg software and tried again with the latest Download Assistant. This gave me the same issue.

I uninstalled the Download Assistant and tried installing all the components individually.

When I finished installing Dorico 6 via its installer file, I receive a message that the installation failed due to an unknown error. Despite this, it appears in my application launcher. When I try launching the program, I am told there are missing components and that I should use the Download Assistant; thus completing this endless loop of failure-to-launch. Using thenewly insta;;ed Download Assistant, I continue to get the message: Steinberg Library Manager privileged helper has wrong version (-1, -1). Failed to establish privileged helper.

Please advise.

Eddie

Hi @psmk31452 , I am the specialist for the audio engine, so in your case I can’t really help, but my dear colleague @dspreadbury will come on-line soon and will be able to help.

@Aelmsley , your main problem is the Library Manager, because that one installs all the sound contents. If that fails then Dorico won’t find any sounds and complains about an incomplete installation, thus the endless loop. What if you download the Library Manager from here?

Hi Ulf

I tried that download before. Just now, I installed it again, apparently successfully. Nevertheless, the same ‘privileged helper’ message keeps popping up when i use the Download Assistant.

Eddie

Hi @Aelmsley , please have a look at this thread. Does that help you?

It might, but how do I view SteinbergHelper start objects?

Have a look in the System Preferences under Login & Extensions (assuming you are on Mac)

Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH appears in this list and it is switched to be ‘allowed’.

Also, MediaBay installation seems to be hanging.

With me it says that there are 2 items. Same with you?

Yes, 2 items.

I need to clarify with my colleagues, hang on a bit…

This is the what our Support would answer you (don’t know if it really helps):

: The error message “Steinberg Library Manager privileged helper has wrong version (-1, -1)” typically indicates that there is an issue with the Steinberg Library Manager (SLM), which is responsible for managing libraries such as sound content for your Steinberg products. This may happen if the Library Manager is not properly updated or if there’s a conflict with your installation.

To resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Update Steinberg Library Manager :
  • Make sure you are using the latest version of the Steinberg Library Manager.
  • Open the Steinberg Download Assistant and check if there is an update available for the Steinberg Library Manager.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart your system.
  1. Reinstall Steinberg Library Manager :
  • If the issue persists after updating, try reinstalling the Steinberg Library Manager.
  • Go to the Steinberg Download Assistant and download the latest version of the Library Manager. Uninstall the current version first and then install the new one.
  1. Run the Steinberg Library Manager with Administrator Rights :
  • Right-click on the Steinberg Library Manager shortcut and select Run as Administrator. This can help resolve any permission issues.
  1. Check for Conflicts with Other Software :
  • If you have any third-party software that interacts with your audio system or your Steinberg products, ensure that it is not causing conflicts with the Library Manager.
  1. Manual Cleanup :
  • If none of the above solutions work, you may need to manually delete any old versions of the Library Manager files, restart your computer, and reinstall it fresh from the Steinberg Download Assistant.

After these steps, the issue should be resolved.
If not, then I’m also at my wits end.

I have done steps 1, 2, and 5 multiple times.

Step 3, run as administrator, I cannot find using control+click on Mac. I see information on the internet regarding “Run an App as a System Administrator or ROOT User” but it involves several complicated steps (including using the Terminal). What additional privileges will this give me (considering I am the sole user of my own computer)?

As for 3rd-party conflicts, I do not know where to begin with such an investigation.

None of this should be necessary for such a fundamental procedure as upgrading from Dorico Pro 5 to Dorico Pro 6.

Surely there must be a fundamental issue that is causing this problem. Shouldn’t all these installation assistants and managers address the fundamental task of installing a software upgrade?

Eddie

If you do a right click on the Steinberg Library Manager.app you get a pop-up menu and one of the items is Run as administrator. Please try that.

This is all the info I can get from the Library Manager application.

I changed permissions for ‘wheel’ and ‘everyone’ to read & write. That didn’t seem to do anything.

In the Library manager, I made the default path /Users/eddie/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content/VST sounds.

Click the small + sign on the lower left corner of the permissions window, add Administrator and change admin to read & write as well.

By chance, has someone else set up your Mac for you? The reason I’m asking is this: when you look at System Preferences > Users & Groups, is your user Normal or Administrator? If it’s Normal, that complicates the everyday use of the Mac a lot. Then it’d be better to create a new admin user and work from there.

Hi Hannuala

Thanks for your input.

I added Administrator, read & write. Also, my name has ‘admin’ below it.

Alas, Library Manager continues to be empty.

Dorico 6 has no sounds, not to mention NotePerformer appearing in the list of Playback Templates.
