Problem with condensing vocal staves

I am trying to get the soprano and alto to condense to just one stave. This works fine until I add the divisi in the alto part. Any way to force them to still condense?

I even tried just putting the div. part in downstem voice 1, but that also breaks the condensing.

Do you have this set under Library→Layout Options→Players→Condensing?

This is how I have it set:

Not sure if it’s possible, but I’m no condensing expert.

I’m no expert on condensing either but I don’t think you can condense two players if one of them also has a divisi going on. I just tried that and the divisi keeps the two players on separate staves. I also can’t force them into one staff with a manual condensing change, the OK button is greyed out when you try that.

(I’m also no expert on vocal scores but I know from reading the forum that condensing vocal staves can have some difficulties of its own, you might want to do a forum search).

If you’re going to put them all on one staff, then the Altos need to be on the same stem, to show who is dividing. I don’t think you can achieve that from Divisi and Condensing.

Are you creating other Layouts with different staff arrangements? If not, then I wouldn’t use Divisi – just add an extra voice to the Altos.

Unless the Condensing is going to save you an extra sheet of paper, then I wouldn’t bother with that either! I can guarantee that someone will ask “how are we dividing those three notes”, even if the stemming is clear.
