I’m having a problem writing 2 dotted eighth notes in consecutive order. Dorico wants to write the first one as an eighth note tied to a sixteenth note then it writes the second one as a dotted eighth. I’ve tried checking boxes in layout options and notation options, but I can’t figure it out. I want 2 dotted eighth notes, not an eighth note tied to a sixteenth note and then a dotted eighth note. Help!!!
Welcome to the forum, @davehealy21!
What meter are you in?
I’m having the same problem whether I’m in 6/8, 12/8 or 4/4.
Welcome @davehealy21!
For 6/8 and 12/8, there’s a Notation Option (Note grouping > Rhythm dots):
For 4/4, you’ll have to use Force Duration: press letter O before entering your notes, or click this symbol in the left column in Write Mode:

If you want to change notes that already exist, instead of re‑entering them you can select them and type 4 letterO 55.
4 = transform the notes to 16ths
O = Force Duration
55 = transform them to dotted eighths.
Thanks for the help! I also have another problem in 6/8 and 12/8 when trying to write an eighth followed by a sixteenth followed by another eighth and another sixteenth. Dorico turns the second eighth note into two tied sixteenths. I write mostly drum charts and these little glitches are very annoying. I don’t remember having these problems with Finale.
