I’ve been having an interesting problem for a few days now. When I want to enter a chord using the midi keyboard, for example a three-note C major chord, Dorico displays the notes in succession as eighth notes c-e-g. When I select the chord icon in the left menu field, the chord entry works, but I have to manually shift to the next beat. Input using RECORD works normally, it is only during manual input (step input). I’m using an Arturia KEYLAB Essential 88 MIDI keyboard. I’ve dealt with Arturia, but the instructions they provided didn’t help. I tried entering the chords in Sibelius and it works fine there. I installed an older version of Dorico 5, but the problem was the same there. The problem has been going on for a few days now.

Do you mean that, while in note entry mode (write mode, shift-N in the piano staff), pressing C E G as a chord does not input a C major chord in the staff (with the rhythmic value chosen)?
Not sure I can help, but some questions:
Are you a keyboard player, just wondering if the notes do not go down very soon after each other, then Dorico will think they are single (or double) notes. If you press the notes down slowly then you should see each individual note input, then play them faster like a quicker arpeggio, then together as one, does this reveal anything of how you are playing the chord in?
I do not usually have Q turned on for chords, which moves on to the next beat.
Do you have any other midi devices connected? They might be interfering with a clean midi signal coming in (for example, active sensing coming in from another midi device).
Also there are no other midi controllers on your Arturia that might be on or sending out information. You checked your keyboard for any settings related to various automations or triggers that are not needed for this?
If you have a DAW or similar, you can connect the keyboard to that to see what midi information is coming in, other than notes.
As just above, this is a check to see if the keyboard is sending clean midi data, meaning just the note information.
You could do the usual things, reboot. Disconnect your keyboard, turn it off, then on, reconnect it. Is it cabled or bluetooth? (If bluetooth, disconnect any other bluetooth devices that you do not need.)
I realize these questions do not account for the keyboard working in Sibelius or otherwise, and it could be a setting or something in Dorico. My Dorico preferences for keyboard input are default and I can play single notes or chords as I need to.
When you say you this has been a problem for a few days now, you are implying it used to work, last week for instance, right?
Hopefully someone else might suggest some other settings within Dorico for you to check.

If you are desperate and really need to get it going again, you can for the moment roll back the 25H2 update, then it should work again. I’m already in contact with Microsoft about the issue.
@Ulf I am about to use Cubase, Dorico, midi keyboard on Windows 11 for a quick project. I am better to use my Mac for this then? (Does this problem affect Cubase?)
Hi @arco, let me answer in bullet points
- Not everyone is affected by this and we don’t know yet the condition for it
- If you are, you can simply roll back the 25H2 update and it should work again.
- I don’t know if Cubase is affected, but Cubase does no chord detection like Dorico does - well maybe in the new score editor, but I don’t know.
- Microsoft proposed to use Win RT MIDI, there is a high chance that that works. You can switch it on in Cubase in the Studio Setup and in Dorico in the Preferences, on the Play tab at the very bottom under Advanced Settings.
- You see, there is no definite one answer to your question. Try it out I’d say and especially in Cubase check the timing of the incoming MIDI messages.

Just a comment for anyone coming here, I did some more tests with my Win11 Surface, no problems entering chords in Dorico with my midi keyboard (25H2 update.)
Adding a note as well: User Miroslav Hanak, the author of this thread, just notified me an hour ago, that he resolved the issue by ordering a new MIDI keyboard. He had that problem with an Arturia Keylab Essential, but now not any more. But he did not tell me what other keyboard he uses now.
So one can see, we still need to find the root cause of this issue.
