Problem with first page template

Help! I seem to have got myself into a mess.

I’m starting a new Brass Band project. I’ve completed the setup and applied a playback template and I’ve pasted in one of the parts from a Finale file via MusicXML. All that seems OK, and I’m ready to start entering everything. I’ve also done the Page templates the way I want, but I don’t seem to be able to apply the first page template to the erm.. first page of the score. It works if I enter a forced page template, but then the music restarts on page 2. I’ve played around with Layout Options with no luck.

Here’s the file, reduced for the forum by removing the VSTs.

Rejoice! Reduced.dorico (1.8 MB)

Thanks

If you open up your First template for the score, you’ll see that your frame chain says MJ. Change this to MA (on both the L and R pages), and you should be good. (Click the dropdown, click MA, and click outside the dropdown.)

Edit: And then remove your page template override.

You’ve got your FrameChains on the first Page set to MJ

If you remove the Template Change and set them back to MA (left and right page) it looks OK to me

[Edit: @asherber was quicker  )

That’s super help, thanks to both of you. I don’t understand how that came about, I can’t remember ever touching the frame chain signposts before. Anyway, something else learnt and on we go!

If you build new page templates: each time you add a new MusicFrame, they will get their individual Frame Chain and Frame Chain “Number”.
Here is an explanation in an older video (be aware, at that time Page Templates were still named “Master Pages”):
