Problem with numbering of variant instruments

Who knows the solution to this?

I’m writing an orchestral score, with the second flute doubling piccolo, so I set up the player correctly. Later in the process, I found out that there is a little part where I need two piccolos, so I added piccolo to the Flute 1 player, too. Now the players and parts are called “Flute 1 and Piccolo 2” and “Flute 2 and Piccolo 1”. I’m worried that might be confusing, even though technically the second player is the first piccolo. I’ve tried to change the names manually in the player section in Setup mode, but this doesn’t change anything in the score. What is the easiest solution to swap the numbering of the two piccolo players without swapping the music?

Or is it correct as it is anyway, since the second player IS the first piccolo??

Confusing for who? Flute 1 knows they are not playing Piccolo 1 (now that would be confusing!)

I would say it is correct, as per convention it is the second player who will double before the first. I just checked the Rite of Spring score, and next to the dedicated Piccolo and Alto Flute players, Flute III doubles on Piccolo II. Clarinet III doubles on Bass Clarinet II, and Bass Clarinet I doubles on Clarinet IV. That’s just how things go.
However, for the names of the part layouts you can maybe simplify a bit:
Flute 1 doubling Piccolo
Flute 2 doubling Piccolo
and then the numbers will just correspond to the chair they occupy in the orchestral setup.

Thank you! In that case, I did the right thing by chance - I assume if I had added a piccolo fo Flute 1 first, the names would be the other way around
