I’m feeling really stupid here, but I have been searching the manual and forum for over an hour, and I simply seem not to be able to figure out a thing that should be fairly simple:
I have two percussion players in this score. Player one has Triangle until Tubular bells, player 2 suspended Cymbal until Tam-tam. How can I
- Have Dorico show “Percussion player 1” and “Percussion player 2” in brackets around the instruments
- include the tubular bells in the bracket of player one
- Make all 7 instruments show on the very first page of the score? Even if I choose show all instruments on first page in the hide empty staves option, Dorico only shows the top instrument of each player.
OK, as usual, after posting here, I finally found a thread in the forum that answered it. At least, this answered my question number 3) and maybe makes the rest unnecessary?
What you can do for the other pages is edit the abbreviated instrument names so they appear like this from page 2:
I like this approach, but it has one drawback: instrument change labels and instrument change warnings use the abbreviated names by default (which leads to a problematic result here). So either you set them to use full names instead (as I’ve done here: you can see “To Bass Drum”), or you change them individually in the Properties panel.
As for the bracket, insert a bracket change from the beginning to include the bells in the bracket of perc. 1.

Thank you! That is a good solution.
As for the bracket, I couldn’t figure out how to make all 7 percussion instruments show on the first page, Dorico makes only the top instrument of each player show even if I choose to show empty staves on the first page. But I figured with my change of name, that’s good enough.
I thought I just leave it at that, I guess the conductor manages to remember which instrument belongs to which player.
The thing I was struggling first was that if I choose to show player instead of instrument on the first page for the percussion, the margin between the music system and the left border of the page becomes huge, and when you try to change the player name in the setup menu, there is no option for line breaks. But found out from another thread here that you just have to write it with the proper line breaks in a normal text program, copy it and paste it in the line for renaming the player. Very weird and not very intuitive if you ask me.

In Layout Options, untick this before changing your brackets (all the instruments will then be displayed), and once you’re done, tick it again.
