I have encountered a problem with playback for larger ensembles. Dorico will play incorrect notes at certain points in the score. If I stop and start at the point where the notes are incorrect, it plays them correctly. Finale had a way to increase the cache to solve this issue. Does Dorico have a similar way to increase the cache?
If you mean stuttering or similar, you can adjust the buffer to something larger in your audio device setup, which you can get to from the menu as Edit→ Device Setup. What you see next depends on the ASIO driver you use, but try increasing it - maybe 512? Or double it to start?
Well I’m old, not enough coffee, excuse excuse… Irrespective, I did as I recall have it set pretty large when I was carrying my MacBook around with bigger ensembles and sample libraries.
Sorry – yes, it’s possible that changing the buffer size might help, but because it’s usually the built-in OS drivers, latency is very low. You just don’t have to mess about trying different drivers, like you do on Windows.
Problems with the buffer usually cause pops and cracks, rather than wrong notes.
A good example is a string section divisi where one part is pizzicato and the other isn’t. For a realistic rendition, you would need to enable independent playback and assign each divisi voice appropriately.
I have learned much from your input and basically am ok now, except I did have note bends and now I don’t. I changed the playback template, so I need to figure that out.
Take care,
Ken
