Problem with triplets in drum part

I’m trying to notate a rumba pattern in a drum set part. I added the snare notes first, and then applied Percussion > Change Voice > Upstem Voice 1. When I attempt to add the bass drum notes, Dorico strips the beams from the 16th note triplet. The bass drum note is supposed to be a dotted quarter note, but Dorico appears to be making it part of the triplet in the snare drum. What am I doing wrong here?

Here’s what the measure is supposed to look like:

Was the triplet 3 selected when you changed the voice?

That is not the way to do it. Just set first the snaredrum and then bring the caret down with the arrow key to the bassdrum line and set the bassdrum.

This video explains:

Actually, I just tried this, and even if the triplet 3 is selected, doing Percussion > Change Voice leaves the triplet behind. This doesn’t seem like it’s the intended behavior.

That video was a big help! Problem solved. Thank you!

Yes, unfortunately you can’t really use the Percussion > Change Voice functionality to move a note from one tuplet context to another. (Under the hood we have to do a lot of work to keep tuplets in sync between the different components that make up a kit voice.) This is a known limitation.

However, as discussed, I don’t think Change Voice is really what’s needed in this case - that’s just for situations where you temporarily want to override the normal kit voice assignment of a particular component.
