Problem with XML import from Cubase

I have problems with importing XML files from the current Cubase version. The adjusted Piano grand staff score looks fine in Cubase but importing the XML to Dorico generates cross staff beaming and the hidden pedal marks are shown. The later one is not a big issue but I could not find a way to restore the cross staff beaming.

Choose the measures with cross-staff notes in the bass clef and use Filtering to choose the bottom notes of each chord.

Then use ALT + M to transfer the selected notes unconnected to the lower staff.

You may want to do this in several stages to avoid the measures where bass notes already exist.

There will still be some clean-up to do after this, but that should reduce your workload.

It’s probably quickest to use the key editor to make the note selection…

I think these are not real solutions. One would expect that the music XML transfer is working with the programs of the same company.

You asked for a way to solve your problem, and both Janus and I responded to what you requested.

If you meant to make a feature request, I’m sure the Development Team will note your follow-up post–while you wait for its implementation.

Thank you for your help, but these are workarounds, I know a couple of them myself as well, but they are all time consuming. I thought that there were some quick solutions. By the way, the exporting of the chord track of Cubase via the music XML is faulty in most of the cases as well, there are missing chord symbols or part of the chord progression is shifted. I do not think these problems are feature request, rather they are bug reports, they should work properly.

You are entitled to your opinion. Every program imports and exports MusicXML with differences.

I agree completely that file interchange between Cubase and Dorico should be easier and more reliable. Cubase’s current MusicXML export has its idiosyncracies, and Dorico doesn’t handle them perfectly at the moment.

The good news is that as we work to bring Cubase and Dorico closer together, you can expect the quality and ease of interchanging music between the two applications to improve. I’m sorry that we don’t have an immediate solution to this problem, but please be assured that we know the current situation is less than ideal, and we are working to improve it.
