Is there a way to set grace notes to appear before barlines by default? Any ideas?
It would be great to have this in the ‘Note Input and Editing’ section in Preferences.
Thanks!

Actually I am wondering… Each time I had this case, it was because there was a trilled note that would end with grace notes, then a “normal” note (next bar). Is it that situation?
I would find it really convenient that Dorico sees that it is the conclusion of a trill and sets it automatically to the previous bar.
I’ve actually never used the grace note after the barline.
I mostly use it in cases like this:
But also in the case you mentioned…
Also, grace notes before barlines don’t work with dashed barlines in aggregated time signatures…
“grace notes” the way Dorico uses them, are in fact appogiaturas and accatiaturas. Both being ornaments preceding a main note.
All other cases, like resolution notes of trills or appointee notes for ending glissandi etc. should become a different name and category and semantic meaning. Yes, we can use grace notes as a helpful workaround, but there are also other workarounds around ![]()
May be Dorico could come up with a dedicated category for those cases.
That would be great.
I have been trying everything to figure out how to put grace notes before the barline. This should be something that is standard (at least in 99% of musical situations I ever come across when a note the grace note(s) precede is on beat one). I understand in earlier versions, there was an option in the Properties panel to place them before the barline, but it is no longer there with the latest updates. How can I easily do this?
Janus, you have a sharp eye.
