#3 open Dorico (latest version in case you have older versions installed) then file->open to open a project. (Do that instead of opening a project from explorer/finder).
#4 switch to galley view (button lower right) and see if the instruments are missing. If not, look in Layout options for the option to hide blank staves and de-select.
Forgot to mention that Steinberg Activation Manager looked fine but I re-downloaded the 5.1.2 update and everything looked ok. I still get Relaunch Steinberg Activation Manager pop ups but I’m not sure why.
Benwiggy, I did not change any defaults - this all started happening in that last update.
James, yes opening new from file works ok. Thanks for the tip.
The problem isn’t the update, Richard. The problem is with the configuration on your computer.
You should find that when you double-click a Dorico project and the Windows pop-up appears asking you to choose which application should be used to open the file, you can choose Dorico, and tell Windows to remember that association for the future. You can easily find instructions for how to fix up file type associations on the web, e.g. here:
Now this has happened as well - the trill note is in the wrong font. I didn’t touch a thing since that last download.
Also have a Dorico diagnostic report. Dorico Diagnostics.zip (459.7 KB)
These settings are all local to a particular project, rather than being system-wide. I suspect the problem here is that you have overridden one or more of the noteheads in Library > Notehead Sets, with the consequence that Dorico cannot find the notehead it expects for the trill auxiliary note. If you would like to attach your project here, we will be able to troubleshoot this for you.
As I suspected, the edits you’ve made to the Default noteheads notehead set are responsible. In Library > Notehead Sets, select the Default noteheads set on the left-hand side. Then select each notehead that shows a red triangle in the corner, and click the “revert” button, circled in yellow in the screenshot below:
That may well be the case, but those edits to noteheads can’t have been made themselves, so I suspect in fact the auxiliary notehead was also not appearing prior to you installing the new update.
