Problems with col legno and a fermata

  1. I take it that I cannot get playback to play col legno. Is there any workaround?

  2. Only one fermata in one spot is causing problems, and I don’t know why, and it doesn’t consistently happen. This fermata on one instrument will sometimes last too long, sounding the note after fermatas in other instruments have stopped. Any ideas?

  1. It will depend on whether the sample library contains col legno samples, or not.

Noteperformer does; also GPO5; Spitfire BBCSO, and most other ‘pro’ libraries.

  1. You’ll need to upload a project file that exhibits the problem. You could make a copy of the document, and delete most of the notes except for this bar, if you don’t want to ‘reveal’ your work online.

If I upgrade to a later (or pro) version of Dorico, will I gain access to these other sample libraries?

I’ll post the page containing the fermata problem.

Thanks.

No, Dorico comes with Iconica Sketch, which contains sustains, spiccato, staccato, pizzicato and tremolo; but nothing beyond that.

The libraries I listed are all third-party VST libraries, of which there are a huge number.

I would recommend Noteperformer, which provides the widest range of techniques, and best phrasing, for the lowest cost and least amount of effort. It’s specifically designed for notation software; whereas most other sample libraries are designed for use in DAWs (e.g. Logic, Cubase, etc).
