Problems with condensing

Good morning,
I’ve recently started using Dorico Pro6.
I used to use Capella 10.
Dorico is still a bit of a challenge for me.
I have a question about condensing.
I’ve now combined two trumpets on one staff, but I can’t process it any further.
I press Shift + N, but when I click on a note or empty bar, it doesn’t respond, so the caret doesn’t appear either.

Can someone show me exactly how this works, using screenshots if possible?
Kind regards, Jan

Adding Markings-trumpet.dorico-together.dorico (1,3 MB)

Adding Markings-trumpet.dorico (1,4 MB)

When using condensing, you add notes using Galley/Fill view not Page view.

You have to either turn off condensing or input notes in Galley View.

Thanks for explaning

Thanksk for explaning

thanks

But I don’t quite understand what’s going on. I can’t get it to work with the choir parts, like the sopranos and altos on one staff and the tenors and basses on one staff (SATB). Is there a logical explanation for this? Do I need to change some settings? Ctrl-Shift-L. What exactly should I set there?

Greetings, Jan

Is that specific to vocal parts? Because you can in instrumental parts..

Sorry, I was thinking of cutaways. Will delete my post.

But I’d like to know: if I want to compose a SATB choir score, should I choose section players or individual players? I haven’t quite figured it out yet.

yes for vocal parts

Yeah my response was to Jesper’s post that he now deleted. I don’t have the knowledge to advise you on vocal parts because I never write for those, but I do know from various topics on the forum that condensing vocal parts can bring some challenges. This topic is an example, you can find others when doing a search on the forum.

It would help if you could give some more details about what exactly you want to achieve and how you tried to do that. Perhaps upload another Dorico file because there are only trumpets in the files from your original post.

Sory I gave answer to te wrong person
