Problems with moving frames

I had problems moving frames with mouse. After a lot of trying I found out that I had to click near the border of the frame and not in the middle of the frame. Is that how it is supposed to work? And if so Why does it not say anything about it in the manual?

Hi @marclabru
I suggest you to become familiar with the shortcuts, form moving items in general; it is faster and more precise in most cases (of course you need the mouse to create them).
Also is preferable in most cases to edit frames and their position in the corresponding Page templates, instead of in the layout directly, to avoid undesired Page overrides that can create problems afterwards.

You can select a frame at any position of it clicking on its border (notice: if you click near a control point, the point will be selected as well; if you click between control points, on the border of the frame, the control point will not be selected).

You can use the TAB button of your keyboard to toggle between deselect all control points (the little blue squares) and selecting the upper left control point.

With all control points deselected and only the frame itself selected you can move the entire frame (with the same shortcuts as below).

Also you can navigate between the selection of different frames of the same kind (music, text or graphic) with the arrow keys (this works only when no control points are activated, so use the TAB to deactivate them).

Then with TAB again you can reactivate the selection of the upper left control point, and navigate between them with the arrow keys, and then use the shortcuts:

  • alt+arrow keys (for fine movements)
  • shift+alt+arrow keys (for normal movements)
  • command+alt+arrow keys (for larger movements) to move the different control points where desired.

Here the Manual page:

Here is a video showing what happens with me. When I click in the middle of the frame, nothing happens.

Possibly because frame can overlap, and you need to double-click to edit them, e.g. add text or image.

It also happens when frames do not overlap. Keyboardshortcuts (ALT + arrow) does work though

@marclabru

  • If you want to move the frame with the mouse you need to drag it from its borders (not from the middle)
But as I suggested above is more comfortable to use the shortcuts
  • If you want to edit the content of a frame, select it and press Enter (or double click in the middle of it, if no overlapping is occurring)

I always adjust frames digitally in Properties, for precision.
