Problems with play mode

A new project, and again, I have no idea what’s going wrong. The score is for organ and cor anglais. For the organ I use Aria Player, it is visible in Play mode when I choose “VST and Midi”; but when I go to Track Inspector, it is no longer there. Apart from this, the Cor Anglais plays staccato notes and sounds very weak. Reading the manual, I find no answer. Can someone tell me what’ is going on here? Thank you! Luc

I see the ARIA player in the popup menu and can select it

You need to route the Aria Player to the Organ instrument using the Track Inspector.

Also, for the Cor Anglais, you need to use the Iconica Sketch Picc, Flt (etc.) expression map.

Thank you both!

Indeed, I see it now, Vadian.

Janus, how do I know that I have to use this expression map? I see that now the expression map is called “HSO English Horn”, why is this wrong? And how do I import the Iconica Sketch Picc. Flt … that I find under Library, expression maps, into the list expression maps under Endpoint?

Because you have loaded an instrument from the Iconica Sketch Library…
(click the edit button to see the Instrument details)

So you would need you use an expression map for that library. Each library uses different keyswitches and CCs to control articulations and one designed for Halion Symphony Orchestra (HSO) will not work with the Iconica Sketch library.

Aha, thank you!

I found the screen that you show, and when I select “sustain vibrato”, the cor sounds in long notes, but still ppp even when I ask FF. So I think I’m still missing something, because in Play-Endpoint Setup I chose now “Default” as expression map, not able to find the “Iconica Sketch Picc. Flt …” there, and not succeeding to import this from the list under Library - Expression Maps. How do I do this? Thanks!

There is a whole series of Dorico Tutorial videos on Playback, VSTs and Expression Maps.

Please, make a cup of tea and watch them.

Thank you Janus! I will! (several cups of tea, and there will be cookies involved too…)
