Last week I saved a montage. It had no plugins saved with it. Yesterday when I went to open it some of the pieces had been shortened and the spacing between songs had been changed and some markers re-positioned. I had not opened the montage since last week and there were no updates done to my computer and my intern is on vacation for the week. I am really confused…thanks for any help or insights.
This “problem” is getting to be very upsetting.
It is like WL13 has a mind of its own.
It is quite strange that random errors in your Wavelab always appear as “edits” and not as errors.
Missing files, missing plugins, silent plugins, no output, wrong audio settings or even errors in functions you may not regularly use such as personalized shortcuts or MIDI remote assignments erased… those would be some of the types of “errors” one would expect to see a piece of sotware do “on its own”. A bug, a disk corruption…
But!… the type of errors that you report are so weird, so much relatable to user editing that it is really scary and makes me wonder if there’s no burial ground underneath your studio.
Shortened tracks and different spacing between them?
That is very strange and even stranger if one wants to consider program error.
How could that happen on its own?
And please understand that i am trying to rationalize this with you!
If that was happening to me i would consider “one hundred” options before program error.
Could the tracks have had their Sample Rate changed and the space between them changed in the same amount of time that they were shortened due to SR being changed?
That is really weird and i have a hard time believing that would be due to a program error.
While I know you have tested your drives, this sort of behavior points strongly to sector errors.
The only other thing I can think of is a power supply dying … I have experienced some weirdness in the immediate period before it died.
Thanks for the replies. This has been going on since I installed WL13. I have reinstalled it two times just to be sure it was not a botched install. I used IOBIT uninstaller so that I also got rid of anything in the registry. I checked the SSD discs and the power supply voltages. I was assuming it was a problem with WL but I never had these types of problems with WL12 or all the way back to WL1.6.2 when I started. Something is going on and I am at a loss to what it is. I also checked for viruses and malware.
As to the burial ground???

Could it be you have a keyboard problem that is changing stuff in WL while you’re not looking?

Anyway, shortened pieces in the Montage in what way? Missing a section or just playing faster?
I took the burial ground to be a joke. 
However there is a legend that Tappan square in the middle of my town is built over an Indian burial ground and that’s why things are so screwed up with the college and the town. FWIW
So I am working on a two CD set. The montage for the first one was fine when I closed it a week ago. When I reopened it some of the markers had been moved and two of the pieces were missing the first 15 seconds. Again I NEVER had this problem with WL12. Is there some setting I am missing??? in a menu somewhere??? This is getting SERIOUS as we are extremely busy.

Now, this is getting to be a seriously scaring problem!
In my area we should probably have burial grounds from the Celts but the misterious part is that they’re nowhere to be seen. No traces from the death. There are villages and artifacts but no burial signs.
Maybe they’re the undead!
Yet, they’re not messing with my WL.
And missing the first seconds of several files upon reopening a Montage is… well… weird!
Are those files intact in their original storage location?
Are they intact in the Montage folder or is the audio missing from the Montage but not from the files themselves?
Could it be that the files “boudaries” in the Montage are showing them to be shorter, visually cutting a portion?
In that case it would be a problem with Markers in the Montage.
I am sorry, i don’t think i’m the best person to help any further because i don’t use much of the Montage side of WL.
I’m more immersed in the Audio Editing side of it.
Would love to know if you find out what is happening though.
The start time of both were moved so the file was shortened and the beginnings cut off.
I too do most of my mastering and restoration work in the audio editing window. I use the montage only for creating Cds

Long live the Celts 
When an audio montage is saved, a checksum is stored along with it. If even a single byte is later altered, by disk corruption, or by a poltergeist (!), the checksum no longer matches, so the problem is detected and WaveLab reports a “Damaged Montage file” to the user.

Yesterday I saved a copy of the Montage I was working on and then, just to be safe, I wanted to save another copy in a different folder. So I went to Save As and the normal screen popped up but when I tried to save the montage WL 13.0.30 it froze and would not complete the task. Is there something weird about WL13 that I cannot Save As a Montage file? Thanks!!!
Do you have another computer where you can try the same actions with the same audio files?
Yes I do and I will try it. I never had these problems with WL12. YIKES! 
I tried to do as you suggested but instead it locked up my computer and I had to shut it down and restart it manually. Now WL 13 will not open - it goes as far as the licensing and then nothing. I tried to start WL in the safe mode but it will not start. I have a BIG project due tomorrow and all my files are on this computer. YIKES!!! All my other WLs work normally. I tried to reinstall WL13 and the download manager said it was complete. Not sure what to do now. Thanks for the info so far.
Try to remove this file once (keep a backup) and start WaveLab (make sure first WaveLab is not visible in the Task Manager; if it is, quit it from there)

Just went to use WL13 again and now every time I click on an audio file WL13 crashes with a white screen.
Windows stores the crash dumps at this location:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps
But check the timestamp, since you probably have several files there.
Nothing in the CrashDump folder. When WL stopped working I got a white screen and it said that WL had stopped working and did I want to close the program or wait?
