I’ll post in case it’s in Steinberg interest to know why some dumb people like me may not be buying Cubase after using the trial.
I’m using a fresh install on a clean new high end PC. After having to dig instructions how to simply change from speakers to headphones through 9 clicks in buried menus and no detection of new devices without restarting, the 4 managers bloatware (why are there 2 steinberg activation managers?!), the glitched window renderings (seems related to disabling HDR rendering in windows), and now I find no VST installed… Yeah, not for me. Too much troubleshoot for what I expected to be simple steps for a greater goal.
Online I see hours of videos but many I saw point to workflows that have changed (like the studio setup now). I expected some learning curve, but Cubase is overcomplicating stuff .
Steinberg needs QA to review the new user UX. I like to think I’m not one to need hand holding and I enjoyed Cubasis (reason I’m trying Cubase for the retrospective recording and variable time signature). I don’t think this was just a case of amateur expecting professional software to be easy, but mostly snowballed 1990 design in need of refactoring.
Please overlook the rant tone, I got excited with Cubasis and was pumped to get Cubase as a step up for me. But I won’t be able to spend so much time debugging if these first steps are an indicative of what UX to expect.
