Programming shortcuts onto mouse side buttons

I’m about to upgrade my mouse, and I’m thinking of the possibilities of having a mouse with side-buttons. I can’t find any info on this, but can dorico shortcuts be programmed onto mouse side-buttons? It could end up extremely useful for me for some stuff, eg. activating the carat without double-clicking and accidentally inputting a note (happens to me so often).

You can disable the double-click behaviour in the general preferences, if it bothers you.

That doesn’t answer my question, my question is can dorico shortcuts be programmed onto mouse side-buttons?

More to do with the mouse and mouse driver than Dorico. I have a Logitech Pro Wireless and G Hub allows you to assign macros to any button, independent of you app. But that’s a high end expensive (and good) mouse. Gamers use this functionality. That mouse has four side buttons altogether - you can add in two more as well as the default two, that come with it. Some mice have many more.
