Project Info shows title to Finale's file name

I created a project by transporting XML into Dorico. Seamless other than I can’t get the title out of the Project Info. In the “Project” on the first screen shot it shows the title I’ve given it in Dorico. Then there is a flow I can’t seem to erase. At the bottom, it shows the old file name in “Copy info from”. How do I remove that bit of information? It interferes with the title of the project.

This screenshot shows the first page.

Every project has to have at least one flow.

The left panel of the project info window shows the project, followed by all flows. The “copy from” button lets you copy the info from any of these entities into any other. Since your project only has one flow, when you have the project highlighted in the left panel (as you do), then you can only copy from the flow. The text in that dropdown is the title of your one flow.

The Default page template for a full score layout includes the flow title token at the top, which is what you’re seeing there. You can edit the Default template and replace {@flowTitle@} with {@projectTitle@}, and then you’ll see the project title instead.

Now I’m dealing with “format”. I’d like the title to look more like a title. I just told my husband I spend 10% of my time actually writing music and the rest is in trying to figure out Dorico. I’m learning, but there is a real learning curve. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Connie

It might be time well spent to first learn Dorico from the start. Importing XML into Dorico is importing some of the constraints from the source too, so it might feel your fighting Dorico at this point.

If the screenshot above is from the first page, then it seems that you’ve done something to make Dorico use the Default template instead of the First template. (The First template has a title that looks more like a title; the Default template just has a page header.)

In Engrave mode, in the Pages panel, does your first page have a green bar, like this?

If so, right-click on that page icon and choose “Remove Page Template Change”.

If that’s not it, can you share your project file here, so someone can take a look?

I’ve been working through this issue since I first posted in the forum and have made some progress — I was able to adjust the font size successfully. However, this project is still behaving differently from others I’ve done. You may be right that some default settings carried over from Finale are affecting it. Also, I don’t see a green bar above page 1, only the standard red triangle in Engrave mode.

A red triangle is not “standard” – it means that you’ve made some changes to the page such that the page will no longer respond to its page template.

Right-click on that page icon and choose “Remove Page Overrides”; this will get rid of the red triangle and hook the page back up to the First template. Then do Engrave > Staff Spacing > Reset Layout to undo the manual changes to staff spacing on the first page.

Given that this piece has only one flow, one can also use the Project Info screen to copy the Project Title into the Flow panel, which would avoid having to change the page template at this stage.

That resolved most of the issues, thank you! I still don’t see a green bar—only the red triangle, which is what I meant by “standard.” In any case, it looks like the main problem is solved. I’ll go through the process a few more times so I can remember it better. One thing I really appreciate about this forum is being able to revisit past threads to refresh my memory without needing to bother anyone. Thanks again for your help!
