Project Switching is Ridiculously Slow

I’ve seen some threads about Cubase loading times being slow but that’s not really my issue as it usually takes only around a minute to load a project if I don’t have Cubase open already. My issue is that if I have a project open and loaded, and want to switch to a different project, instead of the minute it takes to load a project from scratch it instead takes well over 5 minutes for the new project to load (The first 3-ish minutes are usually spent just unloading the first project. One would think that unloading a project would be instant?). Even shutting down Cubase tends to be kinda slow, taking around a minute most of the time. Due to all this, the fastest way for me to switch projects in Cubase at the moment is to open task manager, terminate Cubase, then open and load whichever project I wanted to switch to from scratch. Would be nice if the project switching feature was at least equally fast (One would think it should be faster than opening a separate app to first close Cubase and then reload everything from scratch). Any ideas why this is, and is this a thing for anyone else?

I have an Intel i5 14600k, and all my sounds are on a Samsun 990 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD. Windows 11 is installed on a Kingston SFYRD2000G NVMe SSD. I use the latest version of Cubase 11.

Maybe check your Preferences file?

Under some circumstances, that file can grow extremely large over time.

And since it gets saved when closing Cubase, it can be a reason for the slow closing.

In that case starting out with a new Preferences file might make closing Cubase a lot faster.

p.s. I don’t have Cubase 11 installed anymore, so I’m not sure what the Preferences file name was. In modern versions it’s called UserPreferences.xml

That seems to have had some effect at least. Instead of the 5-10 minutes that it’s taken to switch projects in the past, it now took only 3 minutes; 1,5 minutes for unloading the old project and another 1,5 minutes for loading the new project. Still feels weird to me that it takes so long to unload a project. Looking at task manager that 1,5 minutes is spent completely on nothing but emptying the RAM; the CPU and all my SSDs are doing absolutely nothing during it.

EDIT: Tried it with another project and took time with my phone and this time it was 2:45 both for unloading the old project and loading the new one.
