Project window ruler

The Cubase documentation reads:

Initially, the Project window ruler uses the time format that is specified in the Project Setup dialog.

This does not appear to be the case. Instead, the project window ruler shows the last used time format.

Steps to reproduce
  1. Start Cubase and create a new Empty project
  2. In the Project Setup dialog, select the Display Format Seconds under Project Time Displays and click OK

At this point, the Project window ruler will show whatever it was last set to display. If it doesn’t show Seconds, change the ruler to that setting.

  1. Close the project you just created. (Saving this project matters not.)
  2. Create another new Empty project
  3. In the Project Setup window, this time select the Display format Samples

The Project window ruler will show Seconds, not Samples as expected and as described in the manual.

I would like to propose two changes:

  1. The Project window ruler respects the setting in the Project Setup Dialog upon project creation
  2. The Project window ruler setting is stored with the project rather than globally. This should include Project Templates as well.

I can reproduce this on C14. If you re-open the Project Setup dialog after the project creation and change the display format, it works as expected, although at that point it is much quicker to right-click on the ruler and change it there.

I can’t say that I am bothered by that too much, but I agree with your point 2, that the ruler settings should be per project, makes much more sense.

Thank you for confirming the behavior on Cubase 14.
I’m not too bothered by point #1 myself either. I do think it should change to reflect what the documentation describes and what I assume is the intended behavior.
Point #2 bothers me however. I start all my projects from templates and they have different project ruler requirements.
