Proofreading Incorrect Flagging

Great new version, it ticked of quite a few of my most pressing issues, so thank you and kudos to the Dorico team!

While experimenting with the proof reading tool, I stumbled across three falsely flagged issues:

  • the natural harmonic sounding 2 octaves above the E string of the violin is flagged as impossible while it for sure is possible
  • in a dynamic shape mf/p<mp it falsely flags the mp dynamic as unexpectedly quiet at the end of the preceding gradual dynamic
  • stopped horns with + commonly have the + over every stopped note, it flags those as repeating

Thanks

I can reproduce the problem with combined dynamics (e.g. mfp) and we’ll look into that.

The “+” mute technique is a bit awkward in Dorico currently, because the playback technique for “mute” is a “direction” (i.e. it keeps sounding until it’s explicitly cancelled) rather than an “attribute” which is how it’s used in horn notation. We need to work out what to do here, but one way that will work is to create a single playing technique that covers multiple notes, and then set the continuation type to “Repeat the signs” (either via property or in the playing technique definition).

With the natural harmonic issue, could you attach a small project indicating the problem - there are a number of ways of writing harmonics and I want to make sure I understand which one you’re using.

Thank you, understood about the stopped symbol.

Interestingly in a new project from scratch, proofread doesn’t flag that harmonic, in an existing project it does. See attached.

Aha! There’s a hidden property that’s ended up being set here, which I think is confusing the harmonics calculations. If you select the note, and change it from “natural” to “artificial”, you’ll see the Partial property is set. If you clear that and then change it back to “natural” it should be OK.

Thanks Richard! Appreciate you digging into this on a day like today!
