Properties not carried over from full score to parts

Hi Everyone

I want to extract the parts from an existing full score of mine. Whilst these appear to be readily available from the upper dropdown menu, upon closer inspection, virtually none of the properties are carried over. A lot of manual work is then required to edit each part just to revert to changes I’ve already made in the full score.

For example: I have an ensemble piece including a flute which uses a number of fanned beams constructed from tuplets though with the numbers and brackets hidden. In the flute part, however, the both the numbers and brackets are visible, causing me to hide every instance of them.

Am I missing an easy solution?

Cheers

James

When you have the lower Properties panel open, you’ll see these items:

In general, when you’re making changes that you want to appear in both the score and the parts (like hiding tuplet brackets and numbers), you’ll want to have that third option set to Globally. If it is set to Locally, then changes only apply to the layout you’re currently working in.

If you’ve already made these edits Locally and want to apply them in the parts, you can do Select All and then Edit > Propagate Properties. This will copy all the locally set properties to all layouts in which those notes appear. You should probably do this twice, once in Write mode and once in Engrave mode, since there are properties which are only available in one of those two modes.

Thanks, that’s seems to have solved most of it. Strangely, previously-hidden ledger lines are still visible, even after propagating the properties in both modes. There’s much less to deal with than before though!

You must Propagate Properties from Engrave mode to catch the hidden ledger lines.

I did that but it hasn’t copied over all properties. Sometimes the hidden tuplet numbers are also carried over. I’ll try and play around with it a bit more.

Select all in write mode, switch to engrave mode, and then propagate properties.

Thanks Aaron!

Thanks for the suggestion but that’s exactly what I did and for some reason it still didn’t work. Maybe there was something about these files in particular which the software didn’t like…I’ll remember this for the future though.
