Prophet-6 NRPN issues in Cubase / Nuendo – Omnisphere Hardware Integration

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to use a Sequential Prophet-6 as a hardware controller for Spectrasonics Omnisphere (Hardware Integration) inside Cubase / Nuendo, but I’m running into problems with NRPN messages.

Here’s the situation:

  • Omnisphere Hardware Integration works perfectly in standalone mode with the Prophet-6.

  • The same setup works without any issues using a Moog Muse, which (as far as I understand) sends standard CC messages.

  • Inside Cubase / Nuendo, the Prophet-6 knobs do not properly control Omnisphere.

  • When monitoring MIDI input, I mostly see CC 99 (NRPN MSB) repeating, but the full NRPN sequence (CC 99 / 98 / 6 / 38) does not seem to arrive correctly.

  • Because of this, Omnisphere (and even Kontakt) cannot interpret the control changes coming from the Prophet-6.

Things I’ve already checked / tried:

  • MIDI Control / NRPN enabled on the Prophet-6 (Global menu)

  • Omnisphere: NRPN enabled

  • No MIDI filters active (global or track)

  • Input Transformer disabled

  • Tested both Cubase and Nuendo

  • Moog Muse works fine in the same sessions and ports

This makes me think the issue is specifically related to how Cubase/Nuendo handles incoming NRPN data, especially compared to standard CC controllers.

Has anyone successfully used a Prophet-6 (or OB-6 / similar NRPN-based synths) to control Omnisphere via Hardware Integration inside Cubase or Nuendo?

Any insight about:

  • NRPN handling in Cubase/Nuendo

  • Recommended MIDI routing

  • USB vs MIDI DIN reliability

  • Known limitations or workarounds

would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Prophet 6 working fine here with NRPN and omnisphere 2 VST3 (Windows 11+Nuendo 14.0.41). With Omnisphere hardware Profile set to Prophet 6 all parameters are controlling correctly.

I dont’t use USB but DIN only and have Prophet 6 set accordingly with Globals for NRPN, midi channel currently ‘ALL’.

As you’ve troubleshooted things already maybe also look at the Omnisphe

re assigments and export the list as well.

what are your midi settings in the main Cubase/Nuendo Program Preferences?

Hi, thanks a lot for the detailed reply.

At the moment I’m connecting the Prophet-6 via USB, not MIDI DIN.
Omnisphere Hardware Integration works correctly in standalone, but not inside Cubase/Nuendo.

Regarding Cubase/Nuendo settings:
I’m not filtering any MIDI data. I’m attaching an image showing my MIDI preferences and filters to confirm that Controllers, NRPN, and SysEx are not being filtered.

I also wanted to mention that my Apollo x8 does not have a MIDI input, so I’m limited to using USB for the Prophet-6. The Moog Muse works perfectly in the same sessions and ports because it sends standard CC, whereas the Prophet-6 relies heavily on NRPN.

Based on your experience, it seems very likely that the issue is related to USB vs MIDI DIN.

Thanks again for your help!

As a process of elimination try it also with boxes for SysEX ticked (both rec and thru). Also in Cubase, double check you have only the Prophet connected to Omnisphere track input (to test).

I don’t have Omnisphere, but there was a thread here about a problem with O3 and C15, which was seemingly fixed in an update of Omnisphere
