Purchase from GearForMusic of Cubase 15 by mistake

Hi Guys, Just wondering what your thoughts are regarding my little problem, I have been using Cubase 12 for some time and decided to purchase Cubase 15 Upgrade. However, Silly me ended up purchasing the full package online for 472 euros instead of a much cheaper upgrade @ only 199 euros.,.I purchased from GearForMusic, as thats where I had initially got the Version 12 a few years ago. Its only been 2 days ago but the reply I got from GFM was that I must have registered it already because when I go on their site it wont allow me to claim a refund in order to change to the upgrade instead of the full version. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Did you enter the Download Access Code, or not?

Hi,

you have to adress Steinberg and not GearForMusic within 14 days after the purchase.
Please, go to the refund section on this site

Usually, Steinberg handles these issues swiftly and generously.

I think this is wrong information. Usually you have to get your money back from the shop you gave it to. In this case GearForMusic.

I’m a novice when it comes to computers–in my 70s now– and I may have tried to download it instead of trying the TRIAL version. So when I realised my mistake I immediately deregistered it. any advice appreciated.

I I remember correctly, Steinberg has to undo the activation process and deal with the DAC as a preliminary requirement before you can get your money back from a vendor.

I might be wrong, though. Maybe, this only applies to FastSpring? I have never requested a refund myself so I am happy to stand corrected.

That means you entered the Download Access Code previously? In that case you have registered your license with Steinberg and you can not simple deregister it.

What you probably mean is you deactivated it, but that is still your license. You just deactivated one computer, you can still reenable it by clicking on the Activate button.

The only chance I see here is to get in touch with Steinberg via a Support Ticket and ask them for help in returning your license.

Yes, they need to return the license after it has been registered. However, I also just know how this works if the license was bought on the Steinberg Website, via FastSpring, I don’t know how this might work with other vendors.

Yes, I agree. The only way forward seems to contact Steinberg within 14 days after the purchase as I suggested in post #3 (Steinberg Refund Link). The vendor won’t allow to claim a refund according to the OP so that’s the only possible way to go ahead IMO.

Same here @JuergenP - I am not sure how this works with other vendors than FastSpring. Anyways, I don’t see another way to proceed.

I think yopu are right about getting the money back from the original vendor after it is cleared with Steinberg.

Thanks to everyone who posted with advice regarding this.. I will keep you posted and hopefully Gear For Music will understand the issue. I’ve been a long standing customer down through the years and they have always been very good to deal with. Cheers.

Yep, if the Download Access Code was enrered already, then you probably clear the code with Steinberg first. So, you were right.
